Sikh delegation meets Punjab speaker demanding assembly session on sacrilege

Chandigarh: A delegation of Sikh leaders, led by former Takht Damdama Sahib jathedar Giani Kewal Singh, on Monday met Punjab Vidhan Sabha speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan at Chandigarh demanding special assembly session on the issue of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib.

Following is the content of memorandum given to Sandhwan:

“Respected Members of

 Legislative Assembly, Punjab, Chandigarh

Re :- Request for special         Assembly session on the desecrations( both brought on the record and off the record) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji.

Respectful M L A Sahib,

The holy compositions of great Sikh Gurus, contained in Sri Guru Granth Sahib , are universal and beyond the boundaries of time and space. The spiritual philosophy of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji embraces all human beings irrespective of caste, creed , region or religion.

With acute pain and anguish, we are compelled to bring to your kind notice the declared and undeclared desecrations of the holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. The holy Sikh scripture was stolen from village Burj Jawahar Singh Wala of distt Faridkot, the theft was announced publicly.  On Oct.

12, the torn out pages ( angs ) of the holy scripture were found scattered in the nearby villages apart from village Bargarhi and Burj Jawahar Singh Wala. On October 14 the peaceful protesters reciting Satnam- Waheguru, were fired at by the Akali- BJP Govt.  Same day the police shot dead two of the peaceful protesters at Behbal Kalan . It’s worth mentioning that 122 incidents of desecrations are there on the record in the time span w.e.f. June 1, 2015 to October 19,2015-all during Akali regime.

This sequence of incidents failed to draw the attention of Akali- BJP Govt.followed by Congress Govt. which led to organizing the Panthik Assembly on 20-21 October exposing the Akali-BJP and Congress Govts. of Punjab for not delivering justice to the victims and for not booking the culprits and putting them behind the bars. Also the Panthik Assembly brought out a sort of white paper and distributed in a large number.

The entire Sikh community is shocked over the indifferent attitude of the parties at the helm of affairs which failed to deliver the justice in the repeated cases of desecrations.

The people of Punjab gave a clear majority first to the Congress Party and then absolute majority to the Aam Aadmi Party with the view to getting justice, which, however, has been denied to them so far.

We, therefore, approach  your good self with a request to kindly make it an agenda item of the session fixed for 27th of September, discuss in detail and anything and everything done so far, should be placed before the Sikh Sangat .

It’s very painful that inspite everything being crystal clear, all Govts. have seen this very sensitive issue

as a vote bank and nothing else . The entire Sikh diaspora is stunned to see that all Govts. are politicking and not a single step towards delivering justice, has been taken so far .

Not only the Sikh community, rather all the devotees and those believing in the peaceful and harmonious coexistence of different faiths, within the country and abroad, are compelled to think it as the betrayal of Aam Admi Party also, to which they gave historical mandate in the Assembly elections with the view to getting justice but your party also have disappointed them so far. It’s being minutely observed that these 92 M L As, have not raised their voice boldly, may it be individually or collectively and the same is seen as a sort of volcano within which may erupt anytime.

Who knows better than you, M L A sahib, that power of vote have shown the way out, with utter disgrace, to long since established parties like Akali- BJP and Congress. Undoubtedly your party is going to be held answerable one day, if not today.

We, therefore, approach you once again with a request to kindly take this most sensitive issue with utmost seriousness in the coming session of assembly or have a special session called and ensure the justice to the community and earn the blessings of the Guru. Thanking you,

     With regards”
