Sukhbir Badal offers Simranjit Singh Mann cooperation after his victory from Sangrur

AMRITSAR: Sukhbir Singh Badal, president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) which remained on fifth place and lost security deposit in the elections, also whole heartedly congratulated Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar)’ president Simranjit Singh Mann on his electoral victory in the Sangrur parliamentary by poll and offered him the party’s cooperation.

In a statement here, the SAD (B) president said, “We bow before the mandate of the people in true democratic spirit and are confident Mr Mann will raise his voice to get the grievances of Punjabis addressed in parliament”.

Badal said the SAD (B) had contested the parliamentary by-poll on principles and would continue to stand by them. “We had put up a nominee from the families of Sikh detenues in league with all panthic organisations. This was a principled fight. We will continue to strive to secure the release of the Sikh detenu including Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana who has been jailed since the last 28 years without parole”.

“Another detenue Prof Davinderpal Singh Bhullar is not being released despite official clearance given for his release because Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had not signed the release orders since the last seven months. Both these detenue as well as all others languishing in prisons even after completion of their life sentences should be released immediately”, he said.

Meanwhile, congratulating Simranjit Singh Mann, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami hoped that he will raise Sikh issues in the Parliament.

He said the people of Sangrur expressed confidence in Simranjit Singh Mann, which further enhances his responsibility.

The SGPC President said it is common responsibility of all the members of Parliament (MPs) of Punjab to raise their voice for the resolution of issues pertaining to Punjab and especially the Sikh community, about which different governments of the country have remained averse for a long time.

He said that at present the issue of release of Sikh prisoners is very important as the governments are intentionally not releasing the Sikh prisoners who completed their sentences despite the official announcement. He said this injustice is a mockery of India’s democracy, so MPs should move towards this issue with collective efforts.

The SGPC is also controlled by the SAD (Badal) which tried its best to stop Mann from contesting the bypoll despite he was strong candidate in Sangrur. The SAD (Badal) played card of Sikh prisoners to stop him from doing so, but the latter did not get trapped by its leaders. On the eve of the polling, they allegedly made a fake letter with fake signature of Mann viral over social media. This fake letter showed that “Mann has supported SAD (B) candidate Kamaldeep Kaur”. Its leaders played many other dirty tricks to stop Mann from winning the elections.
