Chandigarh: A video of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala has surfaced over social media in which he could be seen talking to SAD (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann about Sangrur parliamentary by poll and ensuring support for him.
In this video, SAD (Amritsar) general secretary Jaskaran Singh Kahan Singh Wala could be seen handing over his phone to Sidhu Moosewala after which he wishes Mann ‘Guru Fateh’ and ensures support for him.
However, it is unclear that how Sidhu Moosewala will support Simranjit Singh Mann in this parliamentary by-poll because he had joined the Indian National Congress recently and had unsuccessfully contested assembly polls from Mansa.
The parliamentary seat of Sangrur had gone vacant after Bhagwant Mann aced in Punjab assembly polls under Aam Admi Party’s banner and became chief minister of Punjab.
Sidhu Moosewala is a controversial Punjabi singer who often faces criticism for the unnecessary glorification of weapons in his songs. He is popular among Punjabi children for the beat, he follows in his songs.
Speaking to The Sikh Narrative, Sikh activist Papalpreet Singh said that Sidhu Moosewala has recently hurt Sikh sentiments by not changing his scheduled concert for June 4 despite repeated appeals. Notably, June 1 to June 6 is observed as Shaheedi Hafta (Martyrdom Week) in remembrance of June-1984’s holocaust.
In June-1984’s holocaust, hundreds of Sikhs led by the 20th century’s great Sikh Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale had attained martyrdom while battling against the Indian armed invasion into holiest Sikh shrine Sri Harmandir Sahib.
Papalpreet Singh further said that it seems practically infeasible for Sidhu Moosewala to support a pro-Khalistan Sikh leader Simranjit Singh Mann while remaining in the ranks of Indian National Congress.
