Sukhpal Khaira-led Sikh delegation meets Punjab DGP over arrest of Parwana, others

CHANDIGARH: Congress MLA from Bholath Sukhpal Singh Khaira-led Sikh delegations on Thursday met Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab – V.K. Bhawra, IPS, at Chandigarh over the illegitimate arrests of the Sikh youths including Sikh preacher Barjinder Singh Parwana in case of Patiala incident

The delegation also comprised SGPC General Secretary Karnail Singh Panjoli, Parwana’s wife Bibi Ramandeep Kaur Parwana, representatives of the committee constituted by Akal Takht Sahib to pursue the matter, Parmpal Singh and Sukhdev Singh Phagwara of Alliance of Sikh Organizations and Gurmeet Singh Bukanwal, president of ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization.

Interacting with newsmen after the meeting, Khaira said, “Whenever, the Police fail in handling the law and order situation, it bring out with the handy tool of Khalistan. Whenever the Police face the music from media, civil society of opposition parties over certain incidents like Patiala clashes, sacrilege incidents, blast at Intelligence headquarter, recovery of Pakistani drones or violence by gangsters etc, it do nothing but to bust Khalistani module. Tall claims are made by the Police and huge recoveries are shown”.

“Punjab Police has no credibility. It can project anyone mastermind of any incident, such as happened in case of Parwana. Moreover, he was booked 8 months old murder case registered in Kapurthala after a person allegedly made sacrilege attempt in Nizampur village. It is totally false case in which Parwana was implicated just on the basis of social media post. Were the Police sleeping earlier? Could not it see the role of Parwana in this case? The only motive of the Police is to terrorize the Sikh youths and be good in the eyes of Central agencies”, he said.

The former leader of opposition in Punjab assembly said, “Even as the Supreme Court has terminated the draconian sedition which was misused by the State against the minorities indiscriminately to crush their struggles, the Punjab Police do not want to learn the lesson. It is implicating the score of youths of Punjab in the cases registered under draconian UAPA”.

“The SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal is today shedding crocodiles tears over the UAPA, but he should remember Sikh youths who were implicated in the cases registered under this draconian law often used to crush dissents in this country”, he added.

Parmpal Singh said, “The delegation met the DGP also over the apprehension of crackdown on the Sikh youths in wake of upcoming anniversary of army attack on Sri Darbar Sahib and Akal Takht Sahib. Ground for the same is being prepared as the Punjab government has called the Central security forces”.
